The Government is to take an action against the British government over a proposed plant at nuclear reprocessing plant at Sellafield, Mr Joe Jacob TD announced today

As the Government had exhausted all other avenues to stop the plant from opening, it was essential the action be taken under the OSPAR convention, said Mr Jacob, Minister with special responsibility for Nuclear Safety.

The action concerns a new MOX (Mixed Oxide Fuel) plant at Sellafied.

Mr Jacob said he is pursuing the action because the British government has withheld information on the ground of commercial confidentiality. He said this information is required to assess the justification for opening the plant.
