THE Taoiseach and the Tanaiste may be heading for Opposition, but they still have European and Northern Ireland negotiations to handle before they relinquish power.

There will also be at least three more weekly meetings of the Cabinet before the Dail resumes on June 26th to elect a Taoiseach. A Government spokesman said yesterday that he expected these to conduct purely routine business.

Mr Bruton and Mr Spring will attend the Amsterdam EU Summit on June 16th and 17th, as will the Minister for Finance, Mr Quinn, and the Minister of State for European Affairs, Mr Gay Mitchell. Mr Bruton is expected to travel to Amsterdam tomorrow for talks with the Dutch Foreign Minister, Mr Hans van Mierlo.

Mr Spring will also be involved in the Northern talks between now and June 26th.
