The capitation rates for special schools have been increased by 30 per cent, the Department of Education confirmed today.

As a result of the changes all children will be paid at the higher rate for over 12s.

For special classes in mainstream schools, the capitation rates has risen by 30 per cent, except for those catering for mild general learning disability (GLD) and specific learning disabilities.

These classes will get the same increase as pupils in mainstream classes, whose capitation has been increased, the Minister for Education Mary Hanafin said today.
