A green energy company is to create 70 jobs in a €12 million investment in Co Cavan.

A green energy company is to create 70 jobs in a €12 million investment in Co Cavan.

Pauwels Trafo, which supplies transformers to European markets, was established in Cavan town in 1978 and already employs 374 people.

The firm said the new investment will help it to capitalise on the global growth in wind power as an alternative energy source.

Pauwels International, which is headquartered in Belgium, employs more than 2,000 people in Ireland, Belgium, Canada, the US and Indonesia.

A Dublin-based subsidiary, Microsol Ltd, also announced an R&D investment today. The firm was established in 1989 and employs 45 people worldwide.

Wellman International Ltd, which supports 270 jobs in Cavan, also announced a new R&D investment today.
