The organisation Families Of The Disappeared (FOTD) is seeking information on 14 people known as "The Disappeared", whom it believes were abducted and killed, mainly by the IRA.

The 14 are:

Mr Charles Armstrong (55) was kidnapped while on his way to Mass in Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, in 1981. His car was found in Dundalk harbour some days later. FOTD says the IRA has specifically denied involvement in his disappearance.

Mr Gerald Anthony Evans (24), of Rathview Park, Crossmaglen, disappeared on March 27th, 1979. There has been no indication of what happened to him and no statement on the case was issued by the IRA.

Ms Jean McConville (37), a widowed mother of 10 children, of Divis Flats, Belfast, disappeared from her home on December 7th, 1972, and was never seen again. Her daughter, Helen, believes her mother was taken because the IRA was searching for a woman whom it believed was involved in a British undercover operation. Ms McConville had also assisted a wounded British soldier at her front door.

Mr Kevin McKee and Mr Seamus Wright, from Andersonstown, Belfast, disappeared in October 1972, from their homes. According to Mr Seamus McKendry, of FOTD, they were known double agents with the British army's Military Reconnaissance Force. It is believed they are buried somewhere in south Armagh.

Mr John McClory (17) and his friend, Mr Brian McKinney (22), from Belfast, disappeared in 1978. Mr McKinney was abducted by the IRA from his work as a gardener and taken with his friend.

Mr John McIlroy and another Mr Seamus Wright disappeared while on their way to work in 1974. FOTD says it has no real information about what happened to them.

Mr Brendan Megraw (24) was taken from his home on the Twinbrook Estate in Belfast in 1975 by a nine-member gang. Considerable mystery surrounds this case and there have been allegations of MI5 involvement.

Mr Sean Murphy (25), of O'Neill's Estate, Creganduff, Co Armagh, disappeared after leaving home to visit his girlfriend in hospital in Newry, Co Down. It is believed he was abducted by the IRA and taken south of the Border. His car was recovered from Dundalk harbour.

Capt Robert Nairac, an undercover British soldier, was taken from a pub in Co Armagh in 1977 and killed. His body has never been found.

Mr Seamus Ruddy, from Newry, disappeared in Paris in 1986. The INLA is suspected of involvement. Mr Ruddy was formerly a leading figure in that organisation's political wing, the Irish Republican Socialist Party.
