London - The Former Tory Chancellor, Mr Kenneth Clarke, has warned his party leader that pro-European Conservatives regard next year's European elections as an "acid test" of Mr William Hague's leadership.
Calling for a shift in policy on the single currency to reflect the "broad church" within the party, he also offered to return to the shadow cabinet if Mr Hague were to make such a move.
But, in an interview with the New Statesman, he insisted he had no intention of leaving the Conservative Party and was still an advocate of former prime minister John Major's much reviled "wait and see" policy.
