AUSTRIA: The far-right politician, Mr Jörg Haider, says Austria could veto the EU accession of the Czech Republic unless it closes a controversial nuclear power plant near the Austrian border, reports Derek Scally.
Mr Haider and Freedom Party politicians have organised a petition to force the Austrian Chancellor, Mr Wolfgang Schüssel, to push for the closure of the Temelin plant at a new round of talks with the Czech government.
The Czech Prime Minister Mr Milos Zeman has criticised the campaign, dismissing Mr Haider as "a political Chernobyl".
