assassination bid by Israel has died of his wounds.

Mahmud el-Madini, 25, was hit by three bullets in the chest apparently fired from an Israeli army post on a hilltop overlooking the Balata refugee camp near the northern West Bank town of Nablus.

Hamas claims he was assassinated.

His death brings to 416 the number of people killed in the wave of violence that exploded across the region almost five months ago, most of them Palestinians.
