The FAI have turned to former Northern Ireland manager Bryan Hamilton to assist them in the process of appointing a successor to Mick McCarthy.
Hamilton, capped 50 times for Northern Ireland, will join FAI president Milo Corcoran, association treasurer John Delaney and acting general secretary Kevin Fahy on the selection sub committee.
"Bryan has a wealth of experience not just as a former international but he also has a great knowledge of the game," said Corcoran.
A former Ipswich Town star, Hamiton progressed to manage and coach at Leicester, Tranmere and Swindon. He holds a FA Advanced coaching license.
The members of the selection sub committee said they were delighted to have such a knowledgeable and experienced football person to assist them in their search for a suitable manager.
Republic of Ireland legend Liam Brady declined a request to become involved and speculation then centred on the likes of Kevin Moran and Mark Lawrenson.
