Hasselbaink secures the points for Chelsea

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored an 88th minute winner to get new look Chelsea off to a winning start to the Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

Under the watchful eye of new owner Roman Abramovich Chelsea took the lead through former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastien Veron. Jesper Gronkjaer outpaced John Arne Riise in the 25th minute before centering to the unmarked Veron who hammered it past Jerzy Dudek from six yards.

Michael Owen controversially equalised from the penalty spot at the second attempt when Carlo Cudicini was adjudged to have encroached on the England striker for the first penalty.

However with two minutes to go Hasselbaink found space and after working it on to his right boot the Dutchman shot back across Dudek and into the bottom corner for the three points.
