The Western Health Board has dismissed as inaccurate recent media reports that antibiotic resistant organisms were found on pens, white coats and tourniquets used by doctors at University College Hospital, Galway.

It has also said doctors at the hospital are no less hygienic than in similar institutions elsewhere. It had been claimed recently that medical staff at the hospital were not washing their hands frequently enough.
