In an ideal world we would all be physically active for hours every day, keeping ourselves fit, healthy and limber. But unfortunately, our lives are often not set up to do that - desk-bound work and using cars, buses or trains to get around tend to restrict how much we move under our own steam.
In this case carving out time to exercise is important, but there are other ways to boost your activity minutes through the day as well.
Take the stairs rather than a lift or escalator; get off the bus or train a stop early, or park your car further from the door of work so that you walk the remaining distance; cycle from home to work or school or the shops if the route allows.
These may seem like simple steps, but it all counts.
