THE Lancet has reported the first known proof, found ink four different medical studies, of a small, increased risk of deep vein thrombosis in the leg or pulmonary embolism in the lung in women who use HRT. While the risk is only one in 5,000 for thrombosis and one in 20,000 for pulmonary embolism, women with a family history of the disorder or a previous episode of such an illness are advised to take this into account when weighing up the risks and benefits of HRT.
