Inquiry launched after man killed on Monaghan farm

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an investigation after a man was killed while involved in construction work on a farm in Co Monaghan.

The man, who has been named locally as Robert O’Reilly (19) from Kilmainhamwood, Co Meath, was working for a builder who had been contracted by a local farmer to build a silage pit.

The incident happened at about 9am on Wednesday.

The emergency services were contacted, and Mr O’Reilly was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he later died from his injuries.

The scene of the incident was sealed off as gardaí and HSA officials arrived.

A spokesman for the HSA said an investigation into the incident was under way.
