THE FIRST IRISH app for sexual health was launched last week by Minister for Health and Children James Reilly.
The new Sexual Health Guide is available as a free app on both the Apple and the Android platforms.
It was launched last week in Dublin by the Galway-based sexual health charity Aids West, which developed it to mark 25 years in existence this year.
It contains a full glossary of terms in relation to sexual health, providing useful information on the importance of positive sexual experiences, frequently asked questions and information on sexually transmitted infections, including symptoms and treatment.
It also lists the different types of contraception and where to go to get emergency contraception or to access help if a person suspects they have a sexually transmitted disease.
AIDS West believes that the app is a necessary development, particularly among a younger, sexually active section of the population with the explosion in social media and internet technology.
The app development was made possible by support from ViiV Healthcare (GSK) Ireland.
