DAIRY TALK: Good nutrition and stress management are the themes of a talk for women on Tuesday next at 6.30 p.m. in the National College of Ireland, Irish Financial Services Centre, Dublin.

Run by the Irish Dairy Council, the talk aims to alert women to the reality that 36 per cent of Irish women do not have enough calcium in their diets and over 50 per cent do not have high enough iron content in their diets. Admission is €5. Tel: 01 6169726.

MEN'S ISSUES: Heart disease, prostate cancer, decreased energy levels and depression were rated as the most important health issues by men in a recent survey. The same survey found that men are more proactive about taking care of themselves with 54 per cent taking daily exercise, 72 per cent not smoking and 74 per cent claiming they eat a balanced diet.

ANIMAL REMEDIES: Young children are not the only ones afraid of fireworks as many pet owners will testify. Many dogs and cats are terrified by the noise and unpredictability of this seasonal activity every Hallowe'en. Animal sedatives may be one treatment option but now an alternative is available in the form of flower essences for animals. Bioforce Animal Health Flower Essences are prepared from fresh flowers of plants and trees and the range includes remedies for pets who are highly strung, timid or over dominant.
