TEENAGE ATTITUDES: British teenagers are not as rebellious as previously thought, a survey said on Thursday.

Bliss magazine asked 5,000 young people with an average age of 15 to take part in the survey which looked into the social and political attitudes of teenagers across Britain.

The average age young people want to get married is 24, the survey said, with 92 per cent saying they believed in marriage and hoped to marry one day.

Seven out of 10 teenagers think cannabis should not be legalised in Britain, even though 23 per cent said they had taken drugs.

Over two-thirds surveyed by the popular teen magazine also said harsher punishments would stop young people committing crimes, with 84 per cent believing adult sentences are too soft and two-fifths wanting the return of the death penalty.

"This survey is a damning indictment of the damage caused by the lax attitudes of adults inflicted on children," said Bliss editor Helen Johnston.

FATHERS AND HEALTH: In a study conducted by US researchers, only 50 per cent of fathers attended their children's routine health check-ups on a regular basis.

Work obligations were the most common reason fathers gave for their non-attendance.

Fathers play a crucial role in their children's health.Previous research has shown that fathers' involvement in children's care can have long-lasting influences on their mental and behavioural development.

Dr Moore and her co-author interviewed 104 fathers of children younger than seven years living in a low-income, urban environment.

FRUIT AND VEGETABLES: If we see our parents eating fruit and vegetables, the likelihood is we will follow in their footsteps, according to a UK study that has nailed several factors involved in infant consumption of fruit and vegetables.

The report by Cancer Research UK found that the amount of fruit and vegetables consumed by children is directly related to their parents' eating habits.

"Demographic variables associated with child's vegetable consumption were mother's education and child's age and gender. Only ethnicity was significantly associated with fruit consumption," said the researchers. Parental consumption, breast-feeding and early introduction to fruit and vegetables were related to intake of both, they added.

DOCTORS' BLACKLIST: According to a story in the Mercury News, a new website aims to help physicians track people who have filed medical malpractice lawsuits -- and consumer groups fear doctors could use the site to 'blacklist' patients.

Started by a Texas radiologist, DoctorsKnow.us bills itself as a "powerful deterrent" to those who would sue their doctors or hospitals by providing physicians with a searchable database of patients, malpractice attorneys and expert witnesses.
