Sprinter Ciara Sheehy tells Patricia Weston about her training regime
What's your training regime like in the run-up to a competition?
In the run-up to a competition for eight weeks I do interval training where I'd mostly run 300m and do two sets of three 300m runs.
As I get closer to competition time I do explosive weight lifting using light weights performing faster repetitions.
How do you keep fit during a competition?
I do one day of weights to keep strong and run short and long distances.
Have you tried any alternative remedies?
The only thing I really do is get regular sports massage for maintenance and injury prevention once every three weeks.
What's your diet like?
I try to eat a balanced diet to get in all the foods I need. I try to stay away from sugary foods.
What's your food downfall?
I allow myself the odd treat because I don't think it's going to do me too much harm. Chocolate is a big thing for me and I love it. I enjoy red wine but I certainly wouldn't go out and get twisted drunk.
Patricia Weston recommends: If you're a beginner to exercise or running Ciara has some useful advice.
Start off at a steady pace.
Build up to a five-minute jog.
