The settled weather is set to continue to the end of the week at least, according to Met Éireann. And temperatures could reach a peak of 26 degrees today. Fiona Gartland reports.
Runners in the Flora Women's Mini-Marathon in Dublin can expect temperatures of up to 24 degrees with light southeasterly breezes, good sunshine and humidity in the afternoon.
Beaches and waterways around the country were busy at the weekend, particularly on Saturday, when there was an average 13 hours of sunshine and a high of just over 25 degrees.
On Sunday, temperatures reduced slightly in hazy sunshine, reaching a peak of 24 degrees in Kilkenny. But temperatures are forecast to rise again today, peaking inland at 26 degrees. It will be cooler on coasts, especially those affected by sea breezes.
Met Éireann has forecast the fine weather will continue until at least Friday with good spells of hazy sunshine in most places. There may be some cloud at times, but temperatures will remain in the low to mid-20s.
Deirdre Lowe, meteorologist with Met Éireann, said that high pressure controlling the current dry spells centred off Kerry and will move toward eastern Europe during the week. "By Friday, it is expected to be over Denmark but will still be keeping low pressure away from Ireland," she said.
Meanwhile, the 43 Royal National Lifeboat Institute stations around the country experienced a busy weekend. National media officer Niamh Stevenson said most call-outs related to pleasure craft.
She warned against the use of inflatables that can drift out to sea.
