The historic Henry Cecil pub in Limerick city, which has been empty since it closed five years ago, has been demolished after a section collapsed this morning.
Four builders who were working on a new development adjacent to the six-storey former pub and nightclub escaped without injury when a 60 foot wall collapsed at lunchtime.
Firecrews arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse and the immediate area was sealed off.
Lower Cecil Street and parts of Henry Street remained close to all traffic for several hours until the area was secured.
The listed Georgian buiding, which was once used as a mill, was closed in 1998 after a 20-year-old woman was shot dead in the pub.
It was the subject of a Limerick City Council protection order, which stipulated that the façade had to maintained if it was ever to be developed again.
The remaining part of building was demolished this afternoon for safety reasons.
