A restaurant and homes in Co Louth were evacuated yesterday after the discovery of four pipe bombs in a derelict house.
The explosive devices were discovered at 2pm yesterday by gardaí who were searching a derelict house at Haggardstown on the Old Dublin Road, four kilometres from Dundalk.
The gardaí had been called to the derelict house after concerns were raised about a suspicious device at the property.
The Army Bomb Disposal Team was called to the scene and a nearby restaurant and a number of houses in the locality had to be evacuated for safety reasons.
A Garda spokesman said the Army Bomb Disposal Team believed the devices were viable.
The four devices had been made safe by yesterday evening and local residents were allowed to return to their homes.
