It has been reported that the Association of Secondary Teachers' Ireland has received a letter from the Taoiseach which contains a proposal aimed at ending the current dispute over pay.

The proposal is to be put before the union's Standing Committee on Friday.

Meanwhile secondary schools in Leinster were closed today as the ASTI's campaign of strike action continues.

The second day of action this year affected schools in Leinster excluding Dublin, where most schools were closed yesterday. The ASTI approximates the number of schools closed in the Leinster region at 120.
