Colombia's rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia said it will release three hostages to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a communique obtained by Cuban news agency Prensa Latina said today.

Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt , who was kidnapped in 2002, is thought to be held by the left wing group.

There have been intensive diplomatic attempts to win Betancourt 's release in recent weeks. Several Latin American leaders appeared to be uniting to make a collective appeal for the hostages' release.
