Sister Stanislaus Kennedy has described as "a disgrace" Government inaction on "the urgent housing needs of people, particularly those on low income".

Addressing a seminar at All Hallows College, Dublin, yesterday she said there were now more than 45,000 households on local authority waiting lists.

Dublin Sinn Fein councillor Mr Christy Burke called for stricter laws to protect those living in rented accommodation.
