The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) yesterday expressed serious concern at allegations of brutality made by people arrested and questioned in Limerick following the murder of Garda Gerry McCabe.
"We have taken statements from a number of people, both men and women, who were questioned at Henry Street Garda station in Limerick and their allegations show a consistency and pattern which is very disturbing," the ICCL said.
The complaints lodged with the commission include physical ill treatment and verbal abuse. The ICCL said that it intends to bring the allegations to the attention of international human rights bodies, and called on the Minister for Justice, Mrs Owen, to investigate.
