Vienna - The former archbishop of Vienna, Dr Hans Hermann Groer, had a three-year relationship with a Benedictine monk, the Austrian weekly publication, News, said yesterday. It cited a local woman who said she was privy to the relationship.

According to the woman, Dr Groer (78), had an affair with "Brother M" of the Benedictine monastery in Goettweig, 50 km west of Vienna, from 1975 to 1978. "Brother M" confided in the woman about his relationship with Dr Groer, who on Monday resigned as prior of another monastery at Goettweig following accusations involving sexual behaviour.
