South African Trevor Immelman birdied the par-four first hole of a sudden-death play-off to pip compatriot Tim Clark for the South African Open title.
Immelman also birdied the final hole of the tournament for a 14-under-par total of 274 to tie with Clark, who was hoping to become the first golfer since Gary Player in 1977 to successfully defend the title.
It was the first success for 24-year-old Immelman in a European Tour event and came at Erinvale Golf Course south of Cape Town, where he played thousands of rounds as a child.
