A round-up of today's other stories in brief
Glen of Imaal mountain rescue has busiest year with 66 call-outs
The Glen of Imaal mountain rescue team in Co Wicklow experienced its busiest year to date since its formation in 1983. It responded to 66 call-outs during the year compared to just 10 incidents a year during the 1980s and an average of 50 incidents each year since 2000.
Weather played its part in this with a good summer encouraging more people outdoors and then wild winter conditions causing more problems.
This year the rescue team had to deal with seven cliff rescues compared to the normal two or three that would occur in a year.
The Glen of Imaal mountain rescue has started work on building a new rescue base at Laragh, which will cost nearly €400,000 and be constructed in two phases.
