Man died after overdose of methadone

A man who died at home following a methadone overdose was dead for 24-48 hours before his body was discovered, Dublin City Coroner's Court heard yesterday.

Paul Burke (37), South Circular Road, was found dead in his apartment by his landlord on July 10th, 2006.

Thomas Brady had called to the flat that morning. When he did not get a reply he used his own key to get in and found Mr Burke's body.

The court heard that Mr Burke had a toxic level of methadone in his blood at the time of death, 1.8 micrograms per mil, and he died of a methadone overdose. Mr Burke was also suffering from hepatitis C.

Man (20) killed in Roscommon crash

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Roscommon yesterday morning. The man (20) was the sole occupant of a van on the N5 Dublin-Westport road. The crash happened shortly before 9am.

This death brings the number of people killed on the roads in the past week to six and the total for the year to 152, down on the 184 people killed in the same period last year.

The motorcyclist who died in a single-vehicle crash at Melison, Co Tipperary, on Sunday afternoon has been named as Michael Tracey (19) from Glencoole.

Man held after heroin seizure

A man has been remanded in custody after gardaí seized heroin worth €200,000 at the weekend.

Brendan Reilly (42), Summerhill, Dublin, a father of six, was arrested following an operation in Clontarf by officers attached to the Drugs Squad.

Mr Reilly appeared yesterday at Dublin District Court charged with possession of drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Gardaí seeking missing man

Gardaí in Dublin are seeking assistance from the public in tracing of a missing man. Christopher Connolly (20) has been missing from his home in Ardbeg Park, Artane, since last Friday.

He is 183cm (6ft) tall with short brown hair, green eyes and he wears glasses.
