Sentence date adjourned over son's exams
A man found with a large quantity of cocaine has had his sentence date adjourned to allow his son finish his Leaving Certificate.
Pádraig Murphy (37), of Kilmartin Avenue, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to having cocaine worth more than €170,000 with the intention to sell or supply it.
Judge Katherine Delahunt at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court agreed to a request by defence counsel to adjourn sentencing until late July.
Jobless man jailed over heroin haul
An unemployed man has been jailed for five years for having more than €13,000 of heroin outside his flat over a year ago.
Judge Patrick McCartan said in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that although Keith Staunton (42) had no “trappings of a rich man”, he didn’t accept his explanation to gardaí he was holding the drugs for somebody else on July 20th, 2007.
Staunton, of North Circular Road, Dublin, told defending counsel Luigi Rea that he got paid for holding 68.786g of heroin for somebody he couldn’t name. Judge McCartan suspended the final two years of the term, saying it was “the best I can do”.
Youths remanded after drugs seizure
Two youths arrested over a seizure of cannabis worth €40,000 in Finglas, Dublin, earlier this week were remanded in custody with consent to bail yesterday.
The boys, both 17, were charged with possession for sale or supply at North Road, in Finglas, on January 12th last, the Children’s Court heard.Judge Angela Ní Chondúin remanded the pair in custody with consent to bail with a €2,000 independent surety.
Man fined over disabled parking
A man who parked in a disabled parking space while he went to get his hair cut has been fined and branded a “low life” by a judge.
Carlow Circuit Court heard yesterday that Leslie Deacon, of Bridge Stores, Graigecullen, Carlow, had used an “out of date” disabled parking permit which belonged to his girlfriend’s mother.
Garda Eugene Ruth said Deacon was parked in a disabled parking spot on February 2nd, 2008.
Judge William Harnett fined Deacon €190.
Trio to leave city following vice raid
Three Brazilian women who admitted running a brothel in Limerick were yesterday given 72 hours to leave the city.
The women were arrested by gardaí earlier this week following a raid at an apartment in the Clancy Strand area of Limerick. All three were charged before Limerick District Court where yesterday they received six months suspended sentences and were given three days to leave the area. Maria Garcia da Silva (40) pleaded guilty to keeping a brothel at the apartment on January 12th last while Ana Christina dos Santos (31) and Joiceline Costas dos Santos (32) admitted assisting in the management of a brothel at the same address.
