RTÉ Radio 1 head to step down
The head of RTÉ Radio 1 Ana Leddy is to step down to return to making programmes, writes Ronan McGreevy.
Ms Leddy said she will not be seeking an extension of her five-year contract when it expires in 2011.
The move is something of a surprise as she has managed to consolidate Radio 1’s position as the number one station in the Republic after a stormy start to her tenure in which she axed several programmes.
She now said she is going to reconnect with her “creative roots” in production.
Shannon searched for missing woman
A search was under way late last night for a 50-year-old woman reported missing in the O’Briensbridge area of Co Clare. Gardaí and the Killaloe unit of the Irish Coast Guard commenced a search after the woman was reported missing earlier.
It is understood that the woman had not been seen since about midday yesterday and relatives, concerned for her safety, notified gardaí.
Coast Guard volunteers carried out water-based searches along the River Shannon near O’Briensbridge and Montpellier between Killaloe and Limerick city, while gardaí and Coast Guard teams searched river banks.
HSE put 11 children into adult facilities
At least 11 children under the age of 16 years have been placed in adult psychiatric facilities this year in contravention of a code of practice signed up to by the HSE.
The HSE released the number of teenagers placed in adult units yesterday.
On Sunday and Monday two girls and two boys were admitted to the Waterford adult mental health in-patient unit. They were kept in separate rooms with en suite facilities away from adults.
