Arrest made over gangland killing
Gardaí have arrested a 22- year-old man in relation to the killing of gangland criminal Eamon Dunne, who was shot dead in a packed pub in Dublin in April.
Gardaí from Mountjoy arrested the man at about 7.45am yesterday in the Dublin 7 area.
He was detained under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act at Mountjoy Garda station and can be held up to 72 hours.
Two men who were arrested in relation to the murder last month were later released without charge.
Dunne (34), Dunsoughly Drive, Finglas, was shot six times at close range as he socialised with his daughter in the Faussagh House pub in Cabra, Dublin, on April 23rd.
A postmortem found he had been shot six times in the head and upper body.
Man appears before court via video link
A Limerick man charged in connection with a shooting in the city last month in which a man was critically injured has appeared before Limerick District Court via video link.
Shane Mason (28), Seán Heuston Place, Limerick, is charged with the possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life at St John’s Square, Limerick, on May 24th.
Daniel Phillips(20), Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, who sustained gunshot wounds to the head and chest, remained in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital last night.
Mr Mason, who was arrested a short time after the shooting, was charged in connection with the incident last weekend.
Judge Tom O’Donnell yesterday remanded him in custody until June 17th.
Ex-Special Forces instructor gets two years for laptops theft
A burglary was carried out with military precision at PC World by a man who had a consumer complaint with the computer store in Limerick, a court has heard.
Artur Sosnowski (36), Nenagh, Co Tipperary, pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage on December 11th, 2009.
The masked burglar, a former instructor with the Special Forces in Poland, gained access to the store through the roof.
The thief was caught by gardaí crawling along the roof of the shop at the Parkway Retail Park in Limerick city carrying a bag filled with laptops.
Limerick Circuit Court was told that he was not satisfied with how staff dealt with his complaint when he tried to return a broken laptop purchased at the store.
Judge Carroll Moran imposed a two-year sentence.
