Fireworks guaranteed in Letterkenny

Sparks will fly in Letterkenny on Friday when it hosts a fireworks display by a leading light of the pyrotechnics world, writes Pamela Duncan.

Pierre-Alain Hubert, considered to be one of the world’s great pyrotechnic artists, will put on his first Irish display in what organisers are describing as a “spectacular once-off outdoor pyrotechnics, music and light show”. Mr Hubert will base his display on a story from Celtic mythology.

“Its a fairytale, not really a fireworks display,” Mr Hubert said. The free event can be viewed from An Grianán Theatre Car Park and the front of the Cultural Centre this Friday, December 11th, at 7pm.

Store owner defiant despite huge fire

A Limerick businessman has vowed to fill customers’ Christmas orders after a fire destroyed his furniture store.

Thirteen fire brigade units from Limerick and Clare spent hours fighting a fire at Tony Cowell’s furniture business at Eastway business park early yesterday. The alarm was raised shortly before 2am when the blaze erupted at the store, located on the Ballysimon Road.

Firefighters who battled the blaze for five hours were praised for preventing the fire from spreading to the neighbouring Wickes DIY store, which opened in October of last year and employs about 40 people.

An investigation was under way yesterday to determine the cause of the fire.
