Gerry Ryan to split with wife of 26 years

RTÉ television and radio presenter Gerry Ryan and his wife Morah are splitting after 26 years of marriage, it was announced yesterday.

A brief statement was issued on their behalf last night.

Solicitor James Hickey said the Ryans would not be making any further comment on the break-up.

"It is with regret that Gerry and Morah Ryan announce their separation after 26 years of marriage," said Mr Hickey.

"They remain dedicated to their five children and ask that for the sake of the family the media give them privacy at this time," he said.

He added: "The couple will make no further comment and ask that their and their children's privacy be respected." - (PA)

Garda freed from custody

A serving member of An Garda Síochána who was arrested as part of an investigation into money laundering and an alleged fraud involving stolen and imported cars, has been released from custody without charge.

A spokesman for the Garda press office said yesterday that investigations are ongoing and files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"The Garda member remains suspended from duty at this time," he said.

Shot fired in store robbery

A lone armed raider fired a shot but no-one was injured during a robbery at a jeweller's shop in Kilkenny yesterday.

Gardaí are searching for a man who is believed to have escaped with a considerable quantity of jewellery from Murphy Jeweller on the city's High Street.

The raider was described as "very tall" and was carrying a rucksack and wearing a yellow fluorescent jacket over a "hoodie".
