Man (63) killed by truck in Meath

A 63-year-old man has died after being hit by a truck yesterday at Millbrook, Oldcastle, Co Meath, at 7.30am. It was not known if a bicycle found at the scene was being ridden by the man prior to the crash.

British supermodel Naomi Campbell will visit Dublin later this month to speak to philosophy students at Trinity College, writes Steven Carroll.

The 37-year-old will follow in the footsteps of stars such as Al Pacino, Helen Mirren and Gabriel Byrne when she goes before the university's Philosophical Society.

Ruth Faller, president of the TCD society said she would be interviewing Ms Campbell before the floor is opened up for students to ask their own questions.

Ban of three years for drunk driver

A father of two who overtook an unmarked Garda patrol car while almost four times over the legal alcohol limit for driving has been put off the road for three years and fined €500.

Judge Tom O'Donnell described the reading as one of the highest he had ever come across.

Andrew Hamill (35), Stoneyhurst, Dooradoyle, Limerick, overtook four other vehicles and broke a red light before he was arrested and breathalysed, Limerick District Court heard yesterday.

He pleaded guilty to drink driving at Rosendale Gardens, Corbally, Limerick and to careless driving at Corbally Road, Limerick, on December 22nd last contrary to Section 49 (4) and Section 52 of the Road Traffic Act.

Man convicted of dangerous driving

A Dublin father of three, who was running late when driving to his brother's anniversary Mass in Gorey, was convicted at Arklow Court yesterday.

Patrick Wall (28), Sundale Green, Tallaght, Dublin, who was detected driving at 165 km/h in a 100 km zone at Templerainey, Arklow, on August 29th last, was fined €150 on a charge of dangerous driving.
