Airlift for stranded jet-skiers
The Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter had to airlift four people to safety after their jet skis ran aground on a mud bank on the Shannon estuary late on Wednesday night, writes Pat Flynn.
The men had been jet-skiing in a tributary of the estuary near Bunratty, Co Clare, when they became bogged down in the mud at low tide at around 11pm.
Rescue crews from the Limerick city search and rescue unit launched two ribs (rigid inflatable boats) and raced to the scene. They found the four men but were unable to reach them as it was deemed unsafe for the rescue crews to try and negotiate the mud.
The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the four back to Shannon airport, from where they made their own way home.
Newcastle West flooding report
A report into the recent severe flooding of Newcastle West in Co Limerick will be made public at a meeting next week.
The publication of the report will follow a public meeting in the aftermath of the town's flash floods.
Limerick Co Council will host the public meeting to discuss the finding of the report at at the Ballintemple Inn, Churchtown, Newcastle West on Tuesday.
Approval for home on campus
The University of Limerick have been granted planning permission by Clare Co Council to build a president's residence on the north side of the campus in Co Clare.
