An Indian policeman believed to be suffering from depression shot dead two colleagues at Calcutta's international airport in a random shooting spree before trying to kill himself.

The gunman was rushed to hospital with head wounds where doctors described his condition as serious, said a police official.

The incident happened at around 3.00 a.m. near the immigration counter just as officials were clearing passengers for a British Airways flight, according to an airport official.

The official said no passengers were hurt in the incident and that security was immediately beefed up in the terminal building.
