THE Minister for Social Welfare, Mr De Rossa, launched the Inishowen Energy Action Project in Co Donegal yesterday. The Carndonagh based scheme aims to match the skills of the unemployed with the needs of the elderly.

Based on a similar project run by Energy Action in Dublin, insulation and basic security measures are being provided in the homes of elderly people throughout Inishowen. Sixteen people are employed through a FAS community programme and to date work has been carried out on 300 of the 700 homes identified. The scheme has the backing of the Garda and community groups such as Care of the Aged and the St Vincent de Paul Society.
