Shane Horgan has been ruled out of the Ireland team to face Wales at Lansdowne Road tomorrow afternoon after failing to recover from a thigh injury.

The Leinster wing has been replaced by former Lion Tyrone Howe for the World Cup warm-up. Howe's vacancy on the replacements bench will be filled by Gordon D'Arcy.

Meanwhile, Munster have signed former Bath hooker Andy Long on a short-term training contract.

Long, 25, has won two England caps, the last against the United States in June 2001, and has been brought in as cover while first-choice hooker Frankie Sheahan appeals against his doping ban.

If Sheahan's September 1st appeal is successful it is likely he would then be included in Ireland's World Cup squad and Long would figure in Munster coach Alan Gaffney's plans until at least the end of November.
