A  coroner's inquest in Co Clare into the death of a two-year-old child who died on a transatlantic jet on Tuesday has been told she was very sick before boarding.

Lumuna Armadan Biddo was travelling with her parents and other family members on a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to New York on Tuesday when she became ill.

A medical emergency was declared by the captain on the plane who sought permission to divert to Shannon airport. However, the child had died before the aircraft landed.

The inquest in Ennis Courthouse heard today  that the girl's father, Armadan Osman Biddo, had fled Eritrea with his wife and six children after their home was destroyed  and family members were killed in the ongoing war between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
