A 28-year-old psychiatric patient died after she set herself on fire in a toilet in St Anne's Hospital, Cork, an inquest has been told. Ms Anne O'Connell, of Cushing Place, Farranree, Cork, was transferred to Cork University Hospital immediately after the accident on November 18th but died of severe burns on December 9th. Replying to Mr Justin Condon, a solicitor representing the O'Connell family, Nurse Margaret Clark said she was not aware of the patient having sought a transfer to St Kevin's, a locked ward. The coroner recorded a verdict of death due to cardio-respiratory failure following severe burns.
