Gardaí are investigating a fire that broke out in Weaver Street flats in Dublin's Liberties early this morning

Gardaí are investigating a fire that broke out in Weaver Street flats in Dublin's Liberties early this morning. It was discovered at 2.30 a.m

The flat where the blaze originated was empty at the time but people in neighbouring flats had to be evacuated.

Two children from a neighbouring flat were taken to Crumlin children's hospital for smoke inhalation. A Garda was taken to St James's Hospital, also for smoke inhalation.

A Garda spokesman said the scene had been preserved for technical examination and an investigation is taking place.

Another fire was discovered at 3.30 a.m. in the Methodist Church on the Clontarf Road.
