US: Ms Chandra Levy, the Washington intern whose body was found last week in a park in Washington DC 13 months after her disappearance, died "through the actions of another person", the city coroner, Dr Jonathan Arden, certified yesterday.

"The cause of death has been qualified as undetermined, the manner of death as homicide," Dr Arden told a news conference.

"It is possible that we will never know the specific injury that caused her death," Dr Arden added.

He said the condition of the skeletal remains was such that it had been necessary to infer homicide from a "synthesis" of circumstances related to the location and disposition of the body and Ms Levy's possessions.

Media reports suggest she may have been tied up with some of her own clothes.

The police are now conducting a full murder inquiry and are expected to re-interview many of those who knew her, including Congressman Gary Condit, with whom she had been having an affair.
