New York - A school caretaker and a man training to become a kindergarten teacher are among 1,500 people caught sending child pornography over the Internet, say New York investigators. The 18-month Operation Rip Cord already has led to the prosecution of 31 people, State Attorney General Dennis Vacco said.

Investigators were so disgusted by the material coming across their screens that they once ripped a computer plug from the wall, giving the "sting" its name. One investigator, Mr Michael McCartney, said the images were so disturbing that he had trouble sleeping at night for several weeks at the beginning of the sting.
