The twin girls at the centre of the Internet adoption row have been returned to the United States, council officials said today.

Sisters Belinda and Kimberley were flown to St Louis, Missouri, from Manchester airport yesterday with three social workers.

A Flintshire County Council spokesman said the twins were last night placed with foster parents pending a decision on their future by the Missouri Court.
