The Irish Patients' Association is seeking answers to questions concerning the Caesarean obstetrics controversy in the North-Eastern Health Board, it said in a statement last night.
"We are in no way presupposing the outcome of the important ongoing investigation by the NEHB," the IPA's secretary, Dr Tony O'Sullivan, said last night. "Nevertheless, we are responding to national public concern."
The IPA is seeking a number of initiatives from the authorities concerned, namely the Minister for Health, the NorthEastern Health Board, the Medical Council and the Institute of Obstetricians.
"The actions we are requesting at this stage are mainly unconnected to this case, although our insistence on immediate action is prompted by the potential significance of the situation . . . "
