Tehran - The Iranian President, Mr Mohammad Khatami, told MPs yesterday he would not intervene on behalf of his ally, Abdollah Nuri, a leading reformist jailed five years for dissent, sources said.

They said Mr Khatami met members of the legislature's reformist Hizbullah Association but spurned their request to interfere with Saturday's ruling of the conservative Special Court for Clergy.
