A growing number of Americans say the war in Iraq is not worthwhile, according to a survey.
The poll, carried out this month by America's Annenberg Public Policy Centre, found 49 per cent oppose the war, compared to 48 per cent who say it was worthwhile.
In October, 52 per cent of Americans polled nationwide said the situation in Iraq was worth going to war over, while 43 per cent said it was not.
The latest survey was conducted between November 1st and 9th, a period when news of US helicopters being shot down in Iraq gained wide attention.
Opinion of how well President Bush is dealing with the situation in Iraq have not changed as much over the same period.
Asked in November if they approved of his handling of the situation, 46 per cent said they approved and 50 per cent disapproved, and the figures were almost the same in October.
