Ireland's pledge

€18m for Aids...

€18m for Aids...

The Government yesterday pledged €18 million to support measures aimed at preventing HIV/Aids infection in developing countries.

The announcement was made by Minister of State for Development Co-operation and Human Rights Conor Lenihan following an EU meeting on the issue convened in London by the UK presidency.

This pledge brings the Government's total financial allocation for HIV/Aids programmes this year to €50 million - a sum which represents almost 10 per cent of the overall overseas aid budget.
