The Republic of Ireland let a lead slip as they went down to their third and most disappointing defeat of the Toulon Festival.

And now Don Givens' men must beat Germany on Wednesday if they are to avoid the wooden spoon.

Givens was able to include Manchester United centre back John O'Shea and Sunderland winger Thomas Butler in his team for the first time in the tournament.

But it was an O'Shea error which allowed Ashraf Hendricks in to cancel out Andy Reid's goal and Butler was often a peripheral figure.

Lesley Manyathela won the match for South Africa in the 64th minute with a powerful header.
